With a special affinity for nature, Hana is my favorite part of Maui. Hiking toward Waimoku Falls, if you look well you might find this place on your way.

Merging Streams - Joelle C. Perz
Monotype and Oil on Canvas

Mirror of the Soul,
the heart of Nature
shelters the freedom within.

Knowing each other's heart,
alive and filled with infinite compassion
merging streams are flowing
into the waters of creation.

The light is shining through the forest
like sparkles of a child's laughter
hanging on the leaves of peace.

Holding on that feeling...
Not a thought to disturb the beauty of it all.
Becoming one.
..

The Opening Reception for Merging Streams on Saturday, October 28th, 2000 was a special event celebrating cultural diversity, painting, music, and the Arts of Aikido. It started with a performance by the Maui Okinawa Taiko Drummers which was immediately followed with a Blessing by Shinichi Suzuki Sensei, 8th Dan, Head Instructor of Maui Ki-Aikido and a brief talk on "The connection between the training of Aikido and the creative process in the Arts" by Christopher Curtis Sensei, 7th Dan, Chief Instructor of the State of Hawaii. Ten percent of all sales will benefit Maui Ki-Aikido Dojo.

On two Saturdays, November 4th and 11th
Joelle gave a hands-on demonstration
on the theme of painting with Ki.
