Martha Woodbury is best known for her translation of themes of polarity--
spiritual, gender, aesthetic-- into striking abstract compositions. Her
forms range in type from crisp, geometric shapes to more flowing, organic
shapes, but the theme always revolves around the idea that opposing forces
keep each other balanced. She has been working in monotype recently, printing
her work in the printmaking department at the Hui No’eau. She has
also been working with an expanded palette in all of her work. Woodbury
explains, “This new work is evolving from my work with the parallels
between masculine and feminine, linear and circular, which I find to be
in everything.”
