Life changes and we are also changing. This show is a collection of my recent works. I sincerely hope these expressions on paper will vivify a sense of wonder and impart a touch of euphoria to all viewers.
Douglas Chun
After a lengthy absence from public view, Douglas Chun presents recent work in both watercolor and acrylic at Viewpoints Gallery beginning on February 17. These images reflect a turning inward for this accomplished Maui painter. Nature has always contained significant spirituality in Chun's painting, whether he composes a landscape, a still life or an abstract painting. In the contemplative mode of this work, he conveys the confluence of stillness and ongoing movement that comprises the paradoxical essence of nature.
Also on view are a group of watercolor sketches made during trips to Europe, South America and Southeast Asia. In them, Chun documents his passion for physical travel and fresh experience. They form a rich counterpoint for the landscapes by rounding out the more cerebral enterprise of his landscapes.
During the course of the exhibit, Viewpoints will provide visitors with a portfolio of reproductions of Chun's abstract work not generally known to the public.
At this critical time in the history of the Hui No'eau, Douglas Chun will contribute a portion of the proceeds of this exhibit to support the Hui's legacy.
