Winning Entry in Last Year's Poster Contest

Maui plein air painters (professional and Sunday alike), were invited to get out on the town streets for the Second Annual Great Makawao Paint Out, which started Wednesday, May 15th and continued through Tuesday, May 28th. Sponsored by Viewpoints Gallery and the Makawao Merchants Association, the Paint Out is also a benefit for the Maui Paniolo Museum.

This year, forty plein aire artists participated in the event which culminated in a grand opening at Viewpoints Gallery on Saturday, June 1st. Most of the artists who submitted the over 60 paintings attended the awards ceremony along with family and friends. Their works will hang in Viewpoints Gallery through June 12th; most are available for purchase.

Darrell Orwig, this year's juror, had a difficult time deciding on the Winning Poster but presented the award to Ronaldo Macedo for his oil painting entitled Down the Street. Orwig next presented Brent Cotton with the Best In Show Award for his oil painting Window Shopping. The People's Choice Award was won by Ronaldo Macedo for his second entry, an oil, titled Welcome to Makawao. Dozens of honorable mentions, prizes, certificates and gifts were awarded to 30 artists in all.. from Gerard Liuaudais, who, at the age of 40 submitted his fourth painting (an oil Natural Ambience) to Miles Hecker, who submitted a simple, fresh pencil and watercolor he calls Kitada's. Miles came in 5th in the competition. He is 10 years old.

So stop by and see this show. You won't be disappointed and may even find a piece that you choose to purchase.
